Toronto is our free play for July 18 as we’re backing the Blue Jays on the moneyline at home against the Chicago White Sox.
Davis Martin enters with a strong 3.41 ERA, but his recent form has not matched that season number. He posted a 6.95 ERA across his final five starts before the All-Star break and has allowed hard contact on nearly 45% of balls put in play this season.
Shane Bieber has struggled since returning, but he has allowed only two runs in two of his last three starts. That includes Toronto’s 5-3 win over San Diego, when Bieber kept the Blue Jays in the game before the offense took over.
Toronto scored 35 runs across its final five games before the break. With Kazuma Okamoto providing power and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. beginning to produce better at-bats, the Blue Jays have enough offense to challenge Martin at Rogers Centre.
Bieber does not need to be perfect. We need him to keep Toronto competitive early and give the lineup an opportunity to win this game at home.
