NFL Preseason Football
Raiders vs Seahawks
Raiders -4.5 (-110) *Consensus
Preseason is more about coaching philosophy than it is the depth chart. Outside of the quarterback position, it really boils down to what coaches want out of the preseason games. Some are looking to fill their roster, some want to win to build positive chemistry, and some just want their team to stay healthy.
The return of Pete Carroll to Seattle. There is sure to be a mix of emotions with the return of Geno Smith & Pete Carroll, but one thing is for sure... Pete Carroll is there to win. During his tenure in Seattle, the Seahawks were one of the best preseason teams year-in, year-out. He emphasizes winning to build the culture. He wants his players ready Week 1, and makes sure they get their reps in the preseason. With the starters expect to start for only one team, the Raiders have the early advantage. Even later in the game, they have a serviceable backup QB in Aiden O'Connell and a scrappy dual-threat QB in 3rd string rookie, Cam Miller.
Mike Macdonald will not be playing his starters in the opener. He played hardly anyone in the preseason opener last season, and after winning in Week 1 of his first regular season start, no need to change it up. The key here is the offensive line. That will be the case for the Seahawks all season. The starters are some of the worst in the league in the backups are backups for a reason. Drew Lock & Jalen Milroe should be under constant pressure in this one.
Go Raiders.
