I’m rolling with the Padres in this matchup, and it comes down to their edge on the mound with Dylan Cease. While Cease has had an up-and-down season, his ability to rack up strikeouts plays perfectly in a pitcher-friendly Petco Park, where one or two big whiffs in scoring situations can swing the game. The Brewers are bringing out Presiter, who has been steady but hasn’t consistently gone deep into games, which puts extra pressure on Milwaukee’s bullpen, and San Diego’s lineup has been taking advantage of mistakes lately. Add in the Padres’ momentum at home and their knack for generating just enough offense behind solid pitching, and this looks like a spot where Cease and the San Diego relief corps shut down Milwaukee in the late innings.
