NFL Preseason – Chiefs vs Cardinals
Line: Chiefs -3 (Preseason Week 1)
Time: 8:00 PM ET
It’s go time, Ghost Picks Nation! We’ve got a rare preseason gift tonight starters in action on BOTH sides. Andy Reid is breaking tradition and letting Patrick Mahomes take the field for the entire first quarter. You don’t see that in Week 1 preseason football, and it changes everything.
On the flip side, the Cardinals aren’t just rolling out the backups either. Kyler Murray will get some run, and the team has been hyping up their new-look passing attack Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride have been torching camp reps. But here’s the difference: the Chiefs’ offensive unit is an established machine, and even in limited snaps, Mahomes has a track record of surgical drives in August.
The Cards will start fast but transition to second-stringers early. That’s when Kansas City’s depth advantage takes over. Reid’s preseason record is no joke, he uses these games to get his offense in rhythm, not just evaluate rookies. Blaine Gabbert and the backup unit have looked sharp in camp, meaning the drop-off after Mahomes isn’t as steep as what Arizona will face.
Defensively, the Chiefs’ front seven will get a chance to tee off on Arizona’s second and third QBs. The Cardinals’ O-line is still shaky in pass protection, and KC’s defensive rotation is deep enough to create turnovers and short fields.
Why I’m Hammering Chiefs -3?
Mahomes Q1 in a preseason game is an auto edge
Andy Reid’s teams treat preseason openers like tune-ups, not walkthroughs.
KC’s backup QBs are way better than Arizona’s depth.
Cards offensive line depth is a concern against KC’s pass rush.
Prediction: Chiefs jump out early behind Mahomes, hold the lead, and pull away late with superior depth.
Play: Chiefs -3 (Preseason winner incoming!)
