The Vikings host the Texans today at U.S. Bank Stadium, and this one’s looking like a solid edge for Minnesota. The Vikings roll out rookie QB J.J. McCarthy making his much-anticipated preseason debut after missing last year’s action he’s eager, mobile, and ready to show he can handle NFL speed. Meanwhile, Houston’s roster is still a bit shaky, dealing with some key injuries and lots of question marks on both sides of the ball.

Minnesota’s defense has been quietly stout in camp, and even with starters getting limited snaps, their depth on defense and skill positions is noticeable. The Vikings have the home crowd behind them and a balanced offense that can run the ball and test Houston’s young secondary early.

Houston’s young QBs are still finding their footing, and the Texans’ offensive line struggles could give Minnesota’s pass rush plenty of opportunities to create chaos. The Vikings’ special teams have also been sharp, which often swings these preseason games.
