Pirates vs. Yankees Free Play Game of the Week!

Our free MLB play for Wednesday, July 22 comes from Yankee Stadium, where Pittsburgh and New York meet in the first game of a doubleheader.

The official free play is Pirates vs. Yankees Over 9.5 runs.

Mitch Keller is the main reason we are looking toward offense. Keller enters with an ERA above 5.00 and has already allowed 20 home runs this season. That is a dangerous profile against a Yankees lineup playing in a hitter-friendly park, especially with warm temperatures and the wind expected to push the ball toward the outfield.

New York has already shown it can produce against Pittsburgh. The Yankees scored eight runs in the series opener, helping the game finish with 13 total runs. Recent matchup history also supports the over, which has cashed in six consecutive meetings between these teams.

Gerrit Cole is the stronger starter, but he has not been untouchable. He enters with a 3.93 ERA through 55 innings, and Pittsburgh has shown enough recent offense to contribute. The Pirates have scored at least five runs in five of their last ten games, including five runs against the Yankees in the opener.

The doubleheader setup is another factor. Both teams may need to manage their pitching carefully, and an early exit from either starter could expose middle relievers. Warm weather, favorable wind and a short right-field porch give both lineups opportunities to create damage quickly.

Public betting is leaning toward the over without being completely one-sided, with approximately 57% of total bets backing Over 9.5. That supports the play without making it an extreme public position.
