Our featured player prop for July 25 is Dylan Cease over 7.5 strikeouts against the Boston Red Sox.
Cease enters this matchup with 155 strikeouts in 104 innings, which works out to roughly 13.4 strikeouts per nine innings. He ranks among the major-league leaders in strikeouts and has already recorded at least eight strikeouts in several starts this season, including six double-digit performances.
The matchup is difficult, but Boston can still provide enough strikeout opportunities. The Red Sox have recorded 629 strikeouts against right-handed pitching this season, and Toronto starter Trey Yesavage struck out nine Boston hitters in only four innings during Friday’s series opener. That is a positive sign for Cease, who owns a much stronger swing-and-miss profile.
Cease finished with seven strikeouts in his latest start, narrowly missing this number, but he previously struck out 11 hitters over eight innings against San Francisco. He also has strong history against Boston, recording 53 strikeouts across eight career appearances, an average of more than six per outing despite several shorter starts.
The key will be efficiency. Cease has the ability to clear this line in six innings, but walks and elevated pitch counts are always the main concern. At 7.5, we are betting on his elite strikeout ability to produce eight or more before he leaves the game.
