Texas A&M +8.5 Is Tonight’s Team Jack Free Play

Team Jack keeps rolling.

We cashed our NCAAF Play of the Week today, and Team Jack is now 7-0 on our last seven big games. We have a big NFL Sunday coming tomorrow, but before we get there, we have another SEC matchup on the board tonight.

LSU deserves respect at home. The Tigers enter tonight ranked No. 10, and playing under the lights at Tiger Stadium is never an easy assignment. LSU entered this matchup having won 25 of its previous 27 night games at Tiger Stadium.

But we're getting more than a touchdown with Texas A&M, and there are several reasons we like having those points in our pocket.

Texas A&M has had recent success in this matchup. The Aggies have beaten LSU in back-to-back meetings and three of the last four, including a 49-25 win in Baton Rouge last season. Past results don't determine what happens tonight, but they show A&M has been capable of competing with this LSU program.

One of the biggest numbers we're watching is third-down defense. Through its first three games, Texas A&M ranked second in the SEC and seventh nationally, allowing opponents to convert just 7 of 31 third downs, or 23%. LSU has been strong on third down offensively, so that matchup could go a long way toward determining whether A&M can keep this game within the number.

There are legitimate concerns with the Aggies, too. Texas A&M is coming off a 31-21 loss to Kentucky, allowing 423 total yards, and the Aggies will be without wide receiver and return specialist Terry Bussey after a season-ending lower-body injury.

We're not ignoring those issues. They're part of why we're getting +8.5 instead of a much shorter number.

The betting market also isn't giving us a reason to blindly follow the crowd. Earlier DraftKings splits showed LSU receiving 64% of spread tickets and 56% of spread money at -8.5. Public betting isn't the reason for our play, but it's another piece of the overall picture.

LSU can win tonight and Texas A&M can still cash our ticket. We're taking more than a touchdown with an Aggies team that has recently played LSU well and has shown an ability to get opposing offenses off the field on third down.
